A conceptual nature center for Audubon Society in the Metro Phoenix Region.

Program: Interpret, capture and enhance the virtues designed in the current center, to create a more intimate experience for people connecting with nature without distraction from the developed surroundings.

Solution: By redefining the form and orientation of the architecture, the entry becomes more obvious and connected as a point of arrival. The horseshoe configuration helps define an oasis and orients a well framed set of intended views. Pedestrian paths of desire as well as views, influence a closer focal range that creates a more intimate environment. Framing borrowed views toward the north and north east, while masking both the sound and view of the traffic on Central Avenue gives understood context. Additionally, creating a more nourished walking experience along the grounds. These combined strategies empower the experience to one that is in tune with the intended nature already benefited by the original design created by Weddle Gilmore Architects and SmithGroupJJR.
