Scottsdale Arts Festival
Featured art-piece competition submission – 2nd Place.
Program: Design an interactive art piece for Scottsdale’s annual featured spring event. These concepts explored ways where a minimal structure, could engage as many people as possible. The intent was to use the environment, such as air and sun, to interact with this art-piece.
Solution: As a finalist, the chosen concept was a bubble producing sculpture. The large K-D structure forms a blossom paying homage to Spring, when the festival occurs. The dynamic element was the flourish of bubbles emanating from the blossoms and cascade through the air throughout the festival park. 3 variations were designed, each representing a different artist and art movement, and each would be strategically placed in the park. As a result, even if a participant wasn’t near one of the sculptures, chances were, they would come across some bubbles that would tempt them to seek its origin.
